Yukon NDP’s Kate White issues statement after Dawson man’s home dentistry goes wrong

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Yukon NDP Leader Kate White made the following statement Monday, Jan. 22, while attending the Association for Mineral Exploration’s Roundup convention in British Columbia.
“We can’t have Yukoners pulling their own teeth out for lack of access to dental care. We just can’t.
We can’t have that anywhere in the territory, and it’s happening in Dawson, where we have a purpose-built dental clinic in a regional hospital.
Dental care is health care, and Yukoners deserve both. Instead, we had a Dawson man pull one of his teeth out 12 years ago, when health care was crumbling under the Yukon Party. The same guy felt he had to try again in 2024 because his best alternative was a long, painful, expensive drive to see a dentist in Whitehorse.
Health care crumbled under the Yukon Party, and the Liberals have done nothing to pick up the pieces.”
Quick Facts:
- Dawson City resident Mike Najman recently underwent emergency dental treatment in Whitehorse after a botched attempt to remove his cracked tooth with pliers.
- Najman took matters into his own hands because Dawson doesn’t have a resident dentist.
- The Yukon Government built a dental clinic in the Dawson City Community Clinic, which opened in 2018
